LAWN WATERING RESTRICTIONS & CHANGES TO WATER BILLING SYSTEM
BROWN LAWNS, DROOPY PLANTS — We all want our greenery to thrive during the ongoing (endless??) water shortage. Manatee County has placed restrictions on when & how we are allowed to water our greens until July 1st. So, before you haul out your hose and get your sprinkler going, please review these restrictions at Manatee County. We all need to do our part to conserve this precious resource.

ACTION IS REQUIRED IF YOU USE THE ONLINE CUSTOMER SERVICE BILLING SYSTEM!
Manatee County Utilities is in the process of implementing a new customer information and billing system. As they transition to the new system, all current preferences, scheduled payments, and online logins have been discontinued as of 2/14/2024. Every utility customer in the county (including all residents of Garden Lakes) has been assigned a NEW account number. If you pay your water bill online, or by phone, or have auto payments set up, you will need to create a new online account. You should have received a letter from Manatee County Utilities with specific instructions. The process is easy and straightforward, but if you have questions or need assistance, check out the FAQs on the home page of Manatee County Utilities.

GLCA Informational Meeting

CLUBHOUSE – TUESDAY, APRIL 2, 2024 – 1:00 pm

PROKOP P.A. has arranged for Mr. Darrin Caldwell of Wrightway Emergency Services to address the GLCA Board, as well as any interested member of Garden Lakes about his company’s approach to water and other disaster remediation and restoration services.

He will share his knowledge and experience in explaining the situations which result in a need for a leak detection, for example, falling tree damage, or a water pipe break inside a unit or building causing damage to other surfaces and property, and the procedures and processes to become whole again.

HOPE TO SEE THE GLCA BOARD AND ALL OF YOU INTERESTED IN HEARING FROM DARRIN ABOUT AN IMPORTANT SUBJECT WE HOPE TO NEVER ENCOUNTER.

 GLCA ANNUAL MEETING
CLUBHOUSE – WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10, 2024 – 1:00 pm

Please make note of this important meeting. Since this is the annual meeting we need to achieve a quorum of 145 returned proxies; send it by mail to Prokop, put it in the Prokop mailbox in the clubhouse, or come to the meeting, sign in and fill out a proxy.

To start the meeting on time, Prokop must count all of the proxies to make sure we have a quorum. Please arrive early enough to enter through the pool gate and check in with your component table on the clubhouse patio (weather permitting and they will be marked by component). Then enter the clubhouse through the clubhouse lanai door. If you have filled out a proxy prior to the meeting and sent it to Prokop or put it in their mail box, you should still stop at your component table for a quick sign in. If you have not filled out a proxy, you can do that when you sign in. Proxy forms were mailed out by Prokop. You should have received 2 mailings. If you have a proxy form that you have not mailed in yet, perhaps it would be best to put it in the Prokop mail box in the clubhouse.

If you have any questions, please contact Leslie at Prokop or call me and I will try to help you.

Thanks,

Sue Fields

REMINDER (REMOVED ON 5/24 AND REPLACED WITH BELOW)
Please don’t feed the critters.  Our wildlife on land and in the lakes are not helped by human food products often left for them by well-meaning residents.  In fact Florida law specifically prohibits the feeding of wildlife. You can help them best by letting them find their own food sources.

WHY DOES MY WATER SMELL FUNNY?
ALGAL BLOOM MAY AFFECT TASTE & ODOR
Customers of Manatee County Utilities may notice a temporary and non-harmful change in their water taste or odor. Algae blooms are regular seasonal occurrences in Lake Manatee but vary in frequency and duration. Current conditions favor a bloom, and tests conducted over the past several days indicate the presence of algae at elevated concentrations in Lake Manatee. This can create an earthy and/or musty taste or odor in the treated drinking water. While the odor or taste may be noticeable, the water remains safe to drink.  Check out this link for more information.
